Talking about the marked up price of Bitcoin on Bitfinex exchange, prominent market data resource CoinMarketCap has excluded Bitfinex’s BTC price from the global average since it is trading at a premium of about $300 to the free market price. Explaining their decision, the CMC website stated:

“Some prices are manually excluded from the average, denoted by an asterisk (*) on the markets tab if the price does not seem indicative of a free market price.”
